Bryan Ferry's solo album the Bride Stripped Bare is amazing. The highlight for me was What Goes On fused with Beginning to See The Light. Both songs taken from the eponymously titled 3rd velvets album, its a seething challenge to Jerry Hall - look at those eyes!! I was too young to appreciate it and loved it just for the clever conjoinment of two relatively innocuous songs with brilliant guitar playing from Watchell and Hubbard. Billed as a real break up record IMHO it stands up more than any other from Ferrys back catalogue. Its no Blood on the Tracks but it at least has light in the shade with this particular song. Lou would be proud.

I like how he is practically seething in this video and through this song. "How does it feel to be loved?" is indeed not part of the original, belonging as it does to "Beginning To See The Light", but in the context of him losing his GF to Mick Jagger, it's perfect.

R.I.P and thanks to Lou Reed, who was the songsmith who wrote and first recorded this song with the Velvet Underground back in "69. What a great interpretation by Bryan Ferry and Waddy Wachtel!

This was originally on Bride Stripped Bare, which, if I remember correctly, was withdrawn by his record company for a while because no one bought it. No? Yes?

Tim1967artist .

The Velvet Underground did that themselves too. He's done a good copy. Certainly done it justice.

first time i ever heard this...its fantastic! i think lou himself would have played similar to this if the rock and roll animal band (hunter+wagner) had done this song.

Y'know, what... not really. In my opinion the best part of What Goes On was the "chainsaw guitar solo", which is absent here, and the best part of Beginning To See The Light is the surreal yet somehow warm and fun lyrics, which are also gone here, Ferry seeming to choose only the most conventional lyrics from that song. Oh well. Still a cool cover.

I love the way he fuses the best parts of What Goes On with the best parts of Beginning To See The Light. Now that's clever.

Good cover, slightly bizzare but a natural choice for Bryan Ferry. Not a patch on The Velvets original though, oh no my son.

Back in 1990 a mate and I put together an indi-dance cover of the original. Was great fun doing it. Shame the tape has been lost for years now.

But still hot, though constipated and sporting a beard.

I really like this song, very catchy! Although, I do have to say that he looks constipated in parts of this video.
