Il fatto che the rising sia dedicato alle migliaia di persone che hanno perso la vita sulle torri gemelle e che da questa tragedia Springsteen ci abbia speculato su facendone un album lascia riflettere. Anche se non dobbiamo negare l'evidenza della bellezza del disco e della originalità di alcune espressioni. Già il titolo del disco è un programma. Immaginatevi i pompieri o la gente che per salvare altre persone salivano mente i palazzi venivamo giù. Bruce ne sa una più del diavolo.
