I read somewhere that he wrote this song for Elvis Presley. He sounds like he's trying to channel Elvis in his singing here. It's a great song and I like every version that I've heard.

actually Bruce Springsteen wrote this song. It was first recorded and released by the Pointer Sisters, then Bruce Springsteen recorded and released it. But he wrote it.

Springsteen wrote this for Elvis Presley, his idol growing up. He sent Elvis a demo of it in 1977, but Presley died soon after. The song would have fit well for Elvis, as it's about a passionate lust a couple has for each other.

I LOVE this song. This song was supposed to be an Elvis song but Elvis turned it down. Idiot. So Bruce Springsteen sang it and in my opinion does a great job with it. Which is probably why he sings this with that Elvis Pressly style when he sings it. Because that's the way this song was meant to be sang. That's why they wanted Elvis to sing it in the first place. They probably told Bruce to sing it this way when Elvis rejected the song. But it sounds awesome regardless.

@eddie davidson That's a serious no no. Bruce Springsteen isn't an impersonator to anyone. He's a legend. Everyone has their own type and way of singing. Just because he sounds a certain way, doesn't make him an impersonator to any other singer of the past of present.

Elvis impersonator? Bruce is completely his own artist with his own style. There were multiple versions of the studio recording of this song, if you research it, he did this version to be similar to Elvis because he was pitching this song to Elvis to see if Elvis would sing it himself. You really have no taste in music if you can dislike this...

This song is sexy. A bit creepy, when you listen to the lyrics..almost sort of..like "Hey i KNOW YOU REALLY WANT IT! COME ON! STOP STRUGGLING!"..but it's charming from Bruce.

This is why when when people say, "Bruce" people turn around and say "Springsteen". Just amazing.

This is the best version, even better than the live version. And certainly much better than the Promise version.
