Wonder how much Bruce's much-discussed rewriting might have been done less to make larger points and more to obscure personal truths. This isn't as polished as the released version, but seems a lot more revealing, esp. the bridge. Dylan had a habit of revising lyrics for this reason, so I could be reading into all this.

The live versions of this song from the 1978 tour are the best ever. I have a ton of shows from that tour and man... when he would go into the *Drive all night* part and then talk about how he and Terry planned to meet but she lied... and some of the shows he would just scream... *YOU LIED... YOU LIED!!!* Those are so emotional and intense. *Bruce* just has a way of reaching into your soul...

it's not bad but they released the right version. The strings make it sound overproduced, not better (as they undoubtedly do on Jungleland).

They don't write them like this anymore...not even Bruce. This is amazing. These were the songs of my youth....down the shore, so many years ago.
