Bruce Hornsby performs "The Valley Road" live at the Farm Aid concert in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 7th, 1990. Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

When I saw them live in Manchester (UK) in 1988, he introduced the drummer, John Molo, as a Jack Nicholson lookalike, whereupon John did a really good impression of Jack!

Kenny Arnoff - I met him at The Bottom Line - a hundred years ago -- I went to see Richard Thompson and I see this guy w/a Mellancamp Jacket at the bar -- I figured he was a roadie ... I started talking to him and he was the nicest guy in the world -- I didn't know he was playing drums for Thompson that night but man was he great - reminds me of Rod Morgenstein the way he attacks the drums . . .

It's amazing how many different ways he's done this song. He mentions bluegrass. The version he did live with the Dead was closer to folk rock.

It's the closest he'll get to funk :-D
