La canzone è dedicata al notissimo festival musicale cui l'artista è particolarmente legata. Proprio mentre assisteva ai concerti dell'edizione 2009, si è risvegliato in lei il desiderio di fare musica in un modo nuovo.

For Brooke Fraser, Coachella 2009 was the event that re-awakened her desire to make music. It was April and the New Zealand-born singer and songwriter was burnt out after completing a three-year tour... and that's where "Coachella" was born...
