it's the different in making a song yourself and having someone else make it for you, and you can hear that in the songs itself: you can hear if the singers and players actually belive in their own music. And ofcourse, there are musicians in the charts that write their own music, and do such stuff themself, I'm mostly talking about the charts in general

I think that it isn´t that much about how the sound is, as it is about making your own songs, writing over something more than the "sex, money, partying" like in music that most of the time in the charts (and really something something really good comes by). Of course there is difference between recordings and live music, but alot of music in the charts are writen by someone else, someone lese plays the drum, the guitar and so on, someone else compose their dances and so on and on
