This reminds me of a guy and a girl in my original stories. The guy wants to break up with the girl but before he can the girl moves away. And they lose all contact with each other, then a few years later the girl returns except they don't recognize each other and the girl's mother remarried so the girl has a new last name. The boy then tells her of how he now has a gf and that she sucks and he wants a new one and then he breaks up with his gf and then gets back together with the first girl he was dating. It then turns out the girl actually knew who the boy was the whole time and she actually did recognize him, even though he didn't recognize her at first. She figured out that he wanted to break up with her the day before she moved so she made sure to cut all contact with him, but she still loved him. And if they stay together? Well you'll just have to wait to find out.
