Just for fun, I listened to Long John Baldry, Jeff Beck, and Nazareth versions of this song before the original. It's would be hard to do such a good song badly, but this one is the best.

First I've heard this original version by the composer. For years I thought the this song was written by Tim Rose but I've come to learn this is only due to his royalty theft from adding his name as co writer when his cover became a hit. On The Grateful Dead's live Europe '72 album Bonnie doesn't even get a co-writing credit. This song haunted me as a teen in the 80's growing up in the shadow of the mushroom cloud as Reagan rattled his saber at the Soviet Union. Although I was introduced to this song through versions by the Grateful Dead & another favorite, the original Jeff Beck Group, I'm glad to finally hear the true author perform this authentic masterpiece anti war statement. Beautiful.
