Bobby had the most sublime phrasing and pushed the notes around like butter.

Jan Believe it or not I have a mint condition Mahavishnu Orchestra album, "Birds Of Fire". I bought it a Cymbaline Records in Santa Cruz in 1973! Love that stuff. Bobby Hackett is the best there ever was...bar none. I first heard him in the early 1960's when I bought three Jackie Gleason's Orchestra albums for "mood music" Worked wonders with the chicks.

Bobby`s phrasing, intonation and soul in this piece is almost like it was sung without words!-Mishka Allport-Fortaleza, Brasil

Bobby Hackett's trumpet sound was unmatched. No one has produced the type of tune and timber as Bobby did. Ray Anthony comes very close but that's it. I have both Jacky Gleason's CD's staring Bobby Hacktt. Jackie loved trumpet, but there were very few trumpeters that could satisfy his taste, Buddy surly did that.

THIS, Billy May and Si Zentner are my favorite "relaxing to" type sounds. Thank YOU for posting the great Bobby Hackett...a few more, please!

As a kid, Jackie Gleason's comedy amazed me...when I grew older, his "lush sounds" were like "Muzak" to my ears! lol

Lou it was his shading that set him apart. What I wouldn't give to have that talent.

Hi Jan good to hear from you. I n the 1950's I wasn't always fond of that style of trumpet or cornet playing, Dizzy and Conte Candoli were my favorites. But an RAF friend made me listen to Louis, Yank Lawson, and then Bobby with Satchmo. Later he was over here in England with Tony Bennett and I felt he was like a chameleon, in that he seemed to make subtle style changes to match who he was playing with. A very clever man, well respected, and as a musician you can't ask for better than that. .

I've always loved this song and Michael Buble did a smashing version a few years ago. But there's only two words to describe this" Bloody Beautiful". Bobby played that iconic trumpet solo on Glen Miller's "String of Pearls" and apparently told the story that he was pretty drunk at the time. No problem talent will out..
