From the 1973 to 1975 Bobby Goldsboro Show. Written by Bobby Goldsboro. Although later remade, the original version is 3:36.

In the spring of my life she came to me

She brought sunshine where winter winds had blown.

Then I took her for my wife in the spring of my life

And she brought me a joy I'd never known.

And the years, they went by in the spring of my life

And in summer she blessed me with a child.

Love continued to grow in the summer of my life

And in every morning sun I saw her smile.

But in the autumn of my years I noticed the tears

And I knew that our life was in the past.

Though I tried to pretend, I knew it was the end

For the autumn of my life had come at last.

Now what, what do you say to a child of ten?

How do you tell him his daddy's going away?

Do I tell him that I've reached the autumn of my life

And that he'll understand some winter's day.

Now a rose can't be found on a snow covered ground

And the sun cannot shine through cloudy skies.

But I'm richer you see for the years she gave to me

And I'm content in the autumn of my life.

Bobby is truly an American treasure; and very underated I might say. I appreciate Bobby so much more now than I did as a teen in the 60's when I was immature.But--ALWAYS loved "A Butterfly For Bucky"---trying to find his fine performance on the Johnny Carson show of it when Orson Wells highly praised his talent and performance. I just never forgot it all these years. Thank you Bobby. My Mom loved you back then.

It's 2015. 1967 seems like a different world. A young lady that was trying so hard to be independent was the "quest" that I so wanted to make mine. We, both, wanted to be together but she stood by her independence. I went off to be on the Military and she to her life. Over the years our paths crossed. We even took the time to share "moments" since those "younger days"! It's been since 1986 and I HURT more for those added times than if we had "left it alone" back in 1967

Nothing could be so painful in my life than letting get away one that was everything. And to think there was a time i could have made her mine and saw her smiling face every morning.I can in my mind see her smiling face but thats just a painful memory for that that was 30 years ago and that young girl of 16 does not exist.,not that i care about that,it just hurts so much to grow old alone.I have read that the pain of a broken heart hurts like physical pain but really it hurts more and i will carry it till this life is over.

This my other favorite song by Bobby G, at least 3 or 4 of them are a tie.. He has a special quality about him when he sings that keeps you engaged. He was such a handsome young man also in the day. .
