Bobby Darin was the best in the business….. ran rings around most….. multi-talented genius…. he was never afraid to try anything, doing as history shows us…. thank goodness Bobby always acted on his intuition because his many recordings speak for themselves…… I think Bobby's folk-rock period is the greatest….. have Bobby Darin "Songs from Big Sur" play it all the time….. guy is a genius leagues ahead of others….. DARN THE GUY IS GREAT, TOP SHELF ENTERTAINMENT ALL THE WAY AND YOU CAN'T GET BETTER THAN THAT IN MY BOOK…. MISS THIS AWESOME GUY AND REMEMBER HIM FONDLY… RIP BOBBY !!

I don't care what style he sings, he was the best!

Is that Taj Mahal in the pic? I agree with CinemaCinder. Darin was never a sell out or a wannabe. Everything he produced, sang & recorded was done with passion & intelligence. Folkies think he was "trying" to re-connect as a hipster with the Tim Hardin folk songs? They forget Darin recorded tracks like "Things," & "Jailer Bring Me Water," years before he recorded Hardin. Darin was already very familiar with folk-rock. Hardin songs were some of Darin's best. Risk? Damn sure it was.

That's right. In fact, "Folk-rock" was not new to him at all. Roger McGuinn of the Byrds actually got his start in his backup band in the early 60's...

When he changed musical direction around '68-'69, Bobby was ragged on by some as a rock 'n' roll sellout to Vegas and Hollywood trying to gain credibility by pretending to be a hipster to impress the "be-in" crowd. Nothing could be farther from the truth. At that time that was who he really was. The deaths of Robert Kennedy and Dr. King affected him deeply. He took a huge risk by starting his own label and recording songs reflecting society in that era. And they were damn good songs, good as any.
