Probably the most contentious show in Dylan's long history of live performance. The between-song "raps" were a fixture of Dylan's performances during his "Christian" period, but early during the Slow Train Coming tour, Dylan and his band encountered the most hostile, skeptical audience of the tour in Tempe, Arizona on November 26th, 1979. An unique audio document of a fascinating period that people rarely discuss today.

Hang on a minute there Bob. Weren't you a serial adulterer - even AFTER you were allegedly 'Born Again'? Wasn't there some drug-taking in there somewhere as well? Not to mention a bit of pilfering of other people's melodies and words. You got one thing right - money doesn't talk, it swears. The world didn't need another phony, hypocritical, finger-pointing preacher. It already had the likes of Jimmy Swaggert, Jimmy Baker, Billy Graham, and enough paedophile priests to populate a continent.Thankfully, Bob eventually woke up and dialled his pontificating down a notch or two, reverting back to the brilliant, poetic Bob we all love.

The quality of this video is poor. What's the purpose of posting it? I can hardly understand what Dylan is saying. Also, the picture at the beginning of the video seems to make fun of Dylan's conversion and also of Christians. I rejoice in Dylan's spiritual experience and would prefer to celebrate that.

Shows what an amazing collection of self centered, ignorant, "please me!, please me!" jerks! Giving the audience a rare chance to interact with him and they basically spit in his face because of the subject matter. That attitude is even more prevalent today when I look around at our society. We have so much in this country and we've earned none of it. We are entitled to absolutely nothing, but are we grateful? Very few of us. They acted the same way at the Portland shows I went to. I was embarrassed for the way a loud portion of our audience treated Bob. The shows were fantastic. He opened one with a little story that broke into a song that went something like "If I got a ticket, can't I ride?" I've looked and looked for a recording of it and have had no luck all these years.

Oh brother. No wonder Mark Knopfler was skeptical about playing on this album. Just play the music already, Bob!

Bob you know the truth. Jesus is the messiah. You have the calling. Speak it to the people again.

This is one of my favorite Dylan moments. Back before we had the bandwidth to share this stuff online, I went to great lengths to get this show--and this tour. Dylan's bearing a cross that nobody quite understands. His telling the audience to rock and roll "in the pit" is quite notable. Wow.

Been a Dylan fan my whole life, lost Dylan and saved Dylan. He is amazing! I am not a fan on old church hymns but his music touches me and I can feel Christ through his music, in his voice. I believe! Those who enjoy to speak negative about him, well, I pray for you. This is sincere and from the heart. Please remember, Gods grace is sufficient. God bless you all.

Saw this show, as well as the 1978 show at the ASU Activity Center. Both were incredible sets but this one was as good as Bob has every played.

Civil war in the audience, just like in '66.
