A lot of people tend to think that teenagers are kind of easily mind-washed. I believe they aren't, they can differentiate fantasy from reality. I followed your advice and read the Wiki about the book and... well... it looks like a love story but I have already read some articles that say the same you do, that the character of Edward is kind of abussive towards Bella. I did never read the novel, because I find Meyer's narrative style unappealing. But... be objective and tell me that vampires stories haven't been kind of abussive before. Didn't Dracula seduced seduces and kills Lucy? Wasn't Lestat's sins more horrible?

If a story about an abusive relationship(look up the twilight plot) appeals to today's teenagers......Then fuck today's teenagers, because for such a thing to be appealing to them, it has to be a reflection of them, something they can relate to... and abuse is something nobody should ever willingly relate to.
