There was another bass singer that could get almost as low as JD. I met him once but I can't remember his name. Does anybody know who else could sing extremely low?

I had the pleasure of seeing this group in 1968 in Duluth, MN. It was WONDERFUL. You're right, John Hall had a great set of pipes. Wonderful man, too. I bought all of their albums.

Bill Shaw, Tenor; James Blackwood, Lead; Cecil Blackwood, Baritone, and "Big John" Hall, one of the deepest, richest toned bass singers ever In this line-up. I'm fairly certain it was Whitey Gleason on the piano. Had the privilege of knowing these fine Christian gentlemen and miss James and Ceicl who have passed dearly. John lives in our area and I am lucky enough to see him perform occasionally.

At least on my tuning fork, the key they take it in is Eb, and the low bass note at the end of the intro is a Bb1, not an A1. Not that it matters much in terms of range, but Eb and Db sound quite different as keys.

Yep, that's an A1. He's got himself quite a set of pipes.

I think you're referring to James Blackwood, the group's lead singer. Bill Shaw is still going strong and singing as good as ever at 87 years young.
