And to think, this magical moment may never have happened if David Bowie had just agreed to sing "Little Drummer Boy" straight up. He was displeased with the song — his exact words were "I hate this song. Is there something else I could sing?" — so "Peace on Earth" was written... and the rest, as they say, is history.
