Lyrics:

While in these days of quiet desperation

As I wander through the world in which I live

I search everywhere for some new inspiration

But it's more than cold reality can give

If I need a cause for celebration

Or a comfort I can use to ease my mind

I rely on my imagination

And I dream of an imaginary time

I know that everybody has a dream

Everybody has a dream

And this is my dream, my own

Just to be at home

And to be all alone...with you

love this tune! when i was in high school, i REALLY wanted to get the solo singing this in my high school chorus, and it went to someone else who was struggling with some personal problems: it left me so pissed! fast forward some 25+ years, and i got to sing it with a student band at the university where i teach (in japan). AT LAST! shades of gregory russo's comments. thanks for posting this!

Anyone else wondering why the stranger is playing at the end??

The little piece at the end of this compilation is the reprise from "The Stranger" and not part of "Everybody Has a Dream." I thought it had been left off when I didn't see it listed in the song list.

I remember buying the tape of this album around the Christmas holidays in 1977, and I listened to it every day and every night till sometime late Summer 1978...I wore out the tape and had to buy a new one. The worn out tape messed up my tape player, had to replace that too. All the songs were my favorites...but Only the Good Die Young and Everybody Has A Dream may have been a little more favorite than the rest.

A beautiful song that reminds me of better times without having to deal with my crazy stupid grandmother.

How do we know that when we sleep the body, the dream state is actually reality, and this physical 3D is the illusion we play in from time-to-time?

One of my favorite "go too" songs for just about anything important to me.

Honestly, my generation sucks. It's too bad I'm one of the few in my generation who likes this music.

Beautiful song, makes me feel humble, and makes me smile, thinking of the 20 something year old man. I am 51 now, and this brings me back. I remember the 20 year old guy, and I laugh. Where did the years go? I don't know, but I thank God I am still here, and I thank Billy Joel for ALL his great music... THANKS Mr.Joel

This is one of Billy's most underrated songs of his career. It's one of my two favorites along with You're Only Human

So, Wolfie.. you're saying you're too stupid to be able to enjoy music without pictures. Hmm.. young, probably.. with attention span of a sound bite.

The intro makes you feel like you're in a revival, then he launches into great, uplifting lyrics. Pure genious at work.
