I was thrilled and honored to publish the Memoir of original Comet, Marshall Lytle, my dear friend and author, "Still Rockin' Around The Clock." I sold the movie rights to Bertie Higgins who is making a movie of 2012 rock and roll hall of famer, Marshall Lytle, scheduled for a fall release, last I heard. Marshall plays the slap bass on the biggest-sellng record by a group according to Guinness Records, Rock Around The Clock. The Memoir goes into great detail about recording it at Decca. I am honored that it is the ONLY rock and roll Memoir on the start of rock and roll by a rock star who was there from day # 1 of rock and roll, side-by-side with Bill Haley. MJR

Song taken from the 1956 Lp "Rock and Roll Stage Show" (The First Concept Album of the Rock History). The aim was to provide listeners with a taste of what a Bill Haley and the Comets show was really like. Opening with an instrumental, followed by a vocal number by Bill Haley, then another instrumental and then a vocal by Billy Williamson and the rest of the band. This was truly the very first rock and roll band with each member of the group playing a vital part in creating this new form of popular music.!!! Beecher´s lead guitar playing riffs a bit to jazzy.

I had the pleasure of seeing a reincarnation of the Comets in 1980 in Daytona Beach, Florida. Sadly, Frannie Beecher (guitar) and Al Rappa (upright bass) were the only ones left from the original band at that time. They were so gracious and I sat down and talked with them during their break. Like an idiot, I didn't have the foresight to bring a camera. Al Rappa told me he had been residing in Orlando, Fl, for several years prior to this reunion. The Comets and the Treniers were the forerunners and pioneers of Rock and Roll as it evolved in the 1950's. If you were a Rock and Roll musician in the early 50's, you could do no wrong.

+Peter Racippo I totally agree, everytime I hear The Comets, just WOW, what a tight band they were and how great Bill Haley was as a band leader. Haley was one of the real cornerstones of American music.

It is really ashame that not only is Bill Haley usually overlooked by most of Rock Historian's, so is his Band. We hear constantly of Eric Clapton, Chuck Berry, etc and their excellent Guitar work which I acknowledge, however Mr. Franny Beecher was an excellent Rock Guitarist and innovator. Unfortunately, I never hear mention of his name when the topic of Rock Guitarist's is brought up. In addition, the sax player-Rudy Pompeli was probably one the best in the Rock Era, however forgotten.

Bill Haley was one of the very early innovators of real rock & roll starting back in 1951. Goofin' Around was from 1956. The guy on your RH side listening to Bill's new tune is Alan Freed. He coined the phrase "rock & roll" at his Alan Freed Moondog Ball in 1953. This is REAL rock & roll. Say no more.
