Girl tears it up. Beautiful. The Moody version has that wall of sound thing. This is just closer to the heart with no echo-chamber or reverb.

Anyone else notice that at the beginning she comes in with the "Goodbye" on 2 instead of 1? Really cool, just not expected. It's different from the Moodys. More laid back.

I have liked The Moody Blues from the the beginning but Bessie Banks' version in my opinion has more emotion and soul.

This would easily hold up against the Moody Blues! If I wasn't for the British invasion this would be the big hit.

As with "Time is on My Side" for many years I did not know the original artists and their recordings. However, and this is rare, I find both versions equally satisfying.

Pretty amazing that I have never heard of this original version. As for Gene O'Brien's post, I imagine that the people who caused Bessie Banks to "miss out" on fame and fortune are the publishing company that her husband signed with. Certainly the Moody Blues didn't take her money.

Thank you for uploading this. I love the Moody's and their version of this song but it's another example of how the original artists lost out on fame and fortune when their music was co-opted by white performers.

Can't believe it took me almost fifty years to learn that the Moodys were not the original artists to perform this terrific ballad. Love it.

This is THE version. Original and so deeply soulful. I remember buying it on the UK Red Bird label. Still have it. Superb, iconic and a masterpiece of Soul singing at its very best. Bierney45 XX
