Although BG had a "hot" band, Ward made a major contribution to his early success. He would have preferred just to play instrumentals, but was required to get a vocalist for the Let's Dance program, which gave him national recognition. It's only because of Ward that we have a recording of his Carnegie Hall concert. After she and BG broke up she left the band and married. Her husband recorded the concert so that she could have a memento--even though she no longer was the vocalist.
