dubstep pretty much lost it's 'dub' and it's 'step' from about 2006 onward. with a few notable exceptions who continued to push the boundaries of course. acts like martyn, peverilist, darkstar & phaeleh kept it interesting but the garbage most think of as dubstep almost make me ashamed to admit i once a dubtep dj. from about 2002 to 2004 i was digging the crates for that stripped back, steppy breaks sound. before i even knew there was a genre called dubstep i was one of the first dj's in nz playing it. late 2004 i had a name for the genre. late 2005 it started blowing up, 2006 it started to lose all the attributes which made it great :(
