Have y'all heard of The Crystals' song, "Da Doo Ron Ron," which was released in 1963 and written by Jeff Barry, Ellie Greenwich and Phil Spector? I'm PRETTY sure BBD's phrasing of "You run, run, run" is a take on that song. In fact, when Biggie said, "Your crew run run, run, your crew run, run," it wasn't original then!!Biggie's line in the 1997 released, "Hypnotized," ("Biggie, Biggie, Biggie, can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotize me?") was first used in 1985 by Slick Rick on Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew's song, "La Di Da Di," ("Ricky, Ricky, Ricky, can't you see, sometimes your words just hypnotize me?").Soooooo, I'm quite sure, BBD (whose members, along with Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown, formed the group, New Edition in 1978) is paying homage to old school. Remember, these guys have been in the business since 1978 and they're all in their 50's. They're not 18 year-old kids with brand new record deals. My point is, they were here BEFORE Biggie and the old school music is what they grew up on. Personally, I appreciate them paying homage NOW instead of waiting until someone dies.
