agreed, I have recordings from beanie in 1983 and 1984 and his voice is much higher not broke, and the riddims were more acoustic sounding, and more grimy not as clean. this sounds like 1987-88 to me.

Discogs is wayyyy of. Certainly not 81. You are however right about Roland TR-707 machine and the early 'electric' tunes (which were still in the minority) around 84. 1985 is the year that saw the rise of such sound with the sleng teng/tempo etc. I would place this definitely at 1986, especially having seen/heard other 1986 material of young beenie.

If you look around the 'net you'll see it listed as 1983 - Discogs even lists it as 1981!!!!!! It COULD have been 84 but no earlier because it uses the Roland TR-707 drum machine which came out in 84. There were 'electric' tunes in 84 anyway like Water Pumping, Herbman Hustling, Bubbling by Aswad etc etc.... I only have the album on MP3 so I cant check the label date.

This IS NOT 1984!!! Dancehall did not sound like this in 84'. In 1984 dancehall was 'rub-a-dub' not 'electric' or built heavily upon keyboard generated riddim. This is post 1985, probably 1986-7, when the 'slack' dancehall songs start to come out with Shabba, Major Mackrel, Admiral Baily, Ninjaman, Supercat etc
