Regarding the Beastie Boys being accompanied by Paul Schaffer & The World's Most Dangerous Band, it came down to this. With very rare exception, the house rule on Late Night with David Letterman was that guest bands never played as a complete unit and were always backed by Paul and the house band. I don't know why this was, but that was the deal. So if, just for instance, Red Hot Chili Peppers were on, Anthony Kiedis and Flea would play with Paul and the band while Chad Smith and John Frusciante would either have to grab a tambourine and hang out while singing backup or take the night off. All three Beastie Boys getting to play their instruments, with Money Mark riding along, was a very rare occurrence and says something about both the politics behind this arrangement and their status at the time. Many a band as big or bigger didn't get the same treatment.8 years назад
