Ironically the version of Rubber Soul Brian heard was the US one which didn't have "Nowhere Man" on it. He heard the folkier version of it but even that one- which omitted four tracks but borrowed "I've Just Seen a Face" and "It's Only Love" from the UK Help!- is a fantastic mind blowing coherent work.

What are you talking about, it is one of the ultimate riffs in popular music. Some of the most popular songs are not complicated in theory, a lot of the Beach Boy's songs seem simple until you really take them apart. Brian was an architect... he built songs that would last forever.....

The Cal Girls intro is the greatest piece of music Brian ever wrote. Which makes it one of the top 5 pieces of music ever written.

somehow sometimes someway brian wilson gets a bit overinterpreted - the california girls intro is nice, and sure, even beethoven could have written it, but what the heck - it is some pretty simple piece of music still, it is the myth around it that is amazing, not the music itself
