I like both of these songs but Brian clearly isn't himself here which makes it a bit painful to watch.

you know - on Airplane - around 1:54 - instead of "body" - he sings "caress my butt so tenderly" - he was really horsing around this concert...

Sorry, but neither Brian not Mike is play the bass here. Brian doesn't move his left hand and before he starts to pluck the bass is already sounding. Sorry, but he stopped playing bass live when he left the touring group at the end of 1964.

more like Brian's punk voice - heh - Brian must have caught what was going on with the music right around then - saw something on TV - these songs aren't really the ones to do *raw* with - heh...

I'd hardly call Mike taking the bass, holding it awkwardly, and maybe plucking a couple of strings "playing the bass." I've seen most of this concert (I can never find a copy that starts any earlier than "California") and trust me, he does NOT play bass at all during any part of the concert.I never knew what to make of the whole mic stand thing...or the "argument"...On one hand, I thought Brian was being goofy, just mocking electrocution and slapping the mic out of "revenge," but the thing is, he looks genuinely angry when he hits the mic, so yeah, maybe he did have some kind of harsh words with Mike.So if Mike and Brian DID have some kind of falling out on stage, I'll betcha it's because Brian was pissed at Mike for making a total ass of himself with those little "airplane" gestures with those arms.

As much as Wilson is well respected for his writing and composing. His drama back then was probably a good cause for Mike to argue. Brian sang well before 77' Even today he needs a lot of help. Do not do drugs kids.

Brian looked quite pissed when he handed the bass to Mike and quickly left the stage. Almost like he was making a statement about how useless Mike is and then Mike attempts to play the bass to save face. You can see from this clip how Mike affected Brian.

They drag a mentally ill Brian out on stage for greedy reasons and then Mike gets mad at him for his antics. Poor Brian.

I think its because Brian all but knocked Mike over running across the stage. At 4:24, Brian ran right where Mike was standing; Mike jumps back as Al tries to make a joke about Brian "coming in for a landing." Mike goes over to Brian, and the two have an argument while the band waits to play "Back Home."

I dont see the problem with airplane mikes screaming at brian for no reason

Omg this is nothing compared to Brian's 1980 performance of " Dont worry Baby". That was just horrid, I felt so bad for Brian. 76-84 were those painful "new voice" years. He sounded great again in 85.

Can you imagine the poor fuckers in the audience who only remembered Brian from the Shindig and Ed Sullivan days. HA! it must have been terrifying for them. The big man shouldn't have been there. Like cruelty.

My guess is that Mike was screaming at Brian for his vocals on "Airplane," which were completely overwrought and shouted. Brian was probably on some drug. As nice a song as this is, Brian was in no shape to be on stage at this point, but Mike either didn't get or didn't care about the state of his mental illness. Brian was singly poorly, but it was the band's responsibility not to have him out there if he wasn't up to it.
