Album: Off the Shelf (1971)

Great duo, but that guy really looks like a caveman.

A masterpiece! This came out before my time (born in '75). Thankfully we have the net to discover so much great music from past eras.

I was sold this album one night on the streets of Edinburgh Scotland 1970 -something. A guy had an arm full of them and was passing them out to any takers for a very small sum. I had no idea who they were but thought, what the hell. Turned out to be a really good album but that was in the days before the internet so I never did find out any more about them until I fell over this.

back in the early 70's cruising around the island after burning a big one in our VW bug. Listening to B&R in 8 track with Jensen Coaxial speakers eating shave ice and not a thing to worry about. No traffic and raged people driving. Pure aloha! What happened!

@sojuand7 Yeah, those were some really happening times. The music. Island life - well, you know.......... Long hair, aloha shirt, rubbah slippah. Good food. Swimming at the beach. Whoa, ,now - all that is making me happy just thinking about it.

@sojuand7 yes, i do...that was all such excellent music. The music scene was really happening. Thank goodness we now have all that music to play now - a vast selection.

I first heard "Can You See Him" from their first album, 'Off The Shelf,' on KBEY-FM in Kansas City in 1971. I bought all three of their albums. I was real disappointed they were not more popular. They were very good musicians, songwriters, and their songs were all very good. Thanks for posting.

They were extremely popular in Hawaii in the 1970's. This song is one of the most favorites of all; notice the similarity of the songwriting, "sound", groove and acoustic flavor in common with Kalapana, Cecilio and Kapono, Country Comfort, Seals and Crofts and America.

John is still going strong after all these years, voice is better then ever! check out johnbatdorfmusic. Hold a house concert and get John to come play in your own living room!

Flash back! This is far out! The sound quality of the vinyl works great! The snap, crackle and pop just adds to the listening experience. I really miss those days - wiping the vinyl and placing the stylus on the edge. Sometimes if you're not careful or you're (not me) really loaded, you'll get an earful of "s..s.ss.." And Bartdorf and Rodney, nice. Party on brethren!
