Here is an exercise for building right hand speed for bass guitar, I think it will be useful for bass players who play death and thrash metal.

My right hand fingering is a bit unconventional, that is why I put the disclaimer in the beginning.

This was done in one take, so it is sloppy in places. However it should be accurate enough for you to understand and replicate the exercise

Notes on the left hand pattern are

Going up:

G on the E string (3rd fret)

D on the A string (5th fret)

G on the D string (5th fret)

B on the G string (4th fret)

Coming down

A# on the G string (3rd fret)

F# on the D string (4th fret)

C# on the A string (4th fret)

F# on the E string (2nd fret)

But the notes themselves do not really matter, feel free to change them. Focus is on the right hand, not the left hand.

I just want to thank you for this video, you have no idea how much this has helped. About 3 years ago I was in an accident that left my left hand along my three fingers basically motionless. I finally got to the point where I could grip things but doctors said I probably couldn't play bass again. I can't play guitar or drums so I went into a bout of depression cause of this. Till finally I said fuck that and started to play again. I used a pick for a while without problems but it wasn't the same for me. So I finally got my two fingers where I could play up to about 100bpm. I found this video a few days ago and decided to pull out my metronome and start at 40bpm and build up 5bpm to get better. It's been two days and I'm up to 140bpm now! it's even improved my two finger technique with the same exercise. I'm hoping in a month or so to be able to play full live shows with my fingers again. At this rate I'm sure I can!

Are you playing a 3-2-1 pattern on your right hand ?(Ring, middle, index, ring, middle, index, etc..) ?

The drum loop carried on to 260 haha :DNazim is it possible to play it continuously at say 200bpm for let's say 30 secs using this technique. Only asking cause you were making breaks to switch to a higher tempo so I was wondering how it would sound in a more continuous way :)

This exercise rules! By the way what do you use for amplification? Your tone sounds so good in your videos.

This technic is fucking genius. Sorry for my language, but goddammit. So far I had extreme problems to get above 120 with 2 fingers and 80 with 3 fingers, and after some little exercises of this technic I suddenly fucking played those 16s in fucking 180. Wow. Shit. Goddammit. A fucking big +1 mate.

Your right hand technique is tremendously efficient. I see your playing close to neck and hitting the strings hard. But how do you keep it even sounding? Mine always has a triplet feel at around 220bpm or greater.
