This tango, composed by Eduard Künneke and released as the B-side to von Geczy's version of "Tango Bolero", was unknown to me but I loved it from the moment I heard it! I especially like its dramatic opening and its rich, melodic orchestration... (giving it almost a symphonic quality).
For the video I decided to make a video featuring Swedish born singer and actress Zarah Leander (1907-81). While she is certainly not without controversy, she has full diva appeal and remains one of my favourite singers/movie stars... The video contains scenes/close-ups from : "Zu neuen Ufern" (1937), "Heimat" (1938), "Es war eine rauschende Ballnacht" (1939), "Das Herz der Königin" (1940), "Der Weg ins Freie" (1941), "Die grosse Liebe" (1941/42) and "Damals "(1943 the now quite famous kissing sequence with Italian hunk Rosanno Brazzi), all in random order. I felt these images combined with the drama of tango made for a rather good combination.
