As one who was there when this came out, it was hated by many and loved by a few open minded people who had had enough of the phoney seriousness of classic rock. The campiness and sheer fun of the band was a breath of fresh air in an otherwise mostly pompous time for music. Remember, there were no Interwebs at the time this was released. We were prisoners of (mostly corporate rock) radio.
