remember as a kid (or whenever, :P) rushing through band after bad finding little bits you knew you liked and some you loved, and then one day you find this band (for me around 99) and you just... cant accept most other bands in similar genres as anything failures of what at the gates was attempting to do... best band period

Well don't get me wrong, i love ATG but you are wrong. In Flames Lunar Strain and Subterranean is something you can call a perfection and everything else in melodeath world is not even close to be good as Lunar Strain and Subterranean. Due to all respect ATG is great band.

I read an interview with Tomas around 08 when they reformed, he more or less said they would never write new material under the name at the gates at risk of tainting the name, but they have talked about forming a new name / band

@pooh1234567890 That's why they broke up after Slaughter of The Soul came out. They knew that they created the most perfect metal album ever and nothing they or any other band could make would be better. They essentially maxed out. No band has ever done something like they have.
