Artie lifts his fingers quite high above the the clarinet. Seeing this must be a horror to a classical clarinetist. But I find that it helps keeping the rhythm. When you let your fingers fall down on the holes it feels like drumming. Kenny Davern later did the same thing.

On the records (both Brunswick & Victor) Tony Pastor takes a full chorus on tenor saxophone. At 0'47" here he is seen sitting down (on the right). Did they film him soloing and if so was it cut out in the original movie or more recently?
