Easy to see how this became part of the Great American Songbook with this wonderful rendition by Shaw Orchestra and Helen Forrest on vocals. Pre-WWII music doesn't come any better.

It's always interesting to hear how each of the band arranges a particular song to it's strengths. While I personally prefer TD's version, there's nothing wrong with this one. Any song Shaw plays is a pleasure, and Helen Forrest was always nice to both look at and listen to; one of the few female singers of her time to successfully go solo later.

I was born in 1940. This is one of the reasons I wish I had been born in 1930. What a wonderful era in which to grow up.

How did 3 guitars and a drum ever replace this incredible music?

Superb, seductive and consummately professional - every musician in Mr Shaw's orchestra was individually brilliant. As for Helen Forrest, words can't describe how talented she really was!

Whenever I hear this version of the Kern classic, I am still amazed by Artie Shaw's effortless playing. The man was truly a genius. With the exception of Benny Goodman, no one came close.
