Though you don't see him, this really is Art Tatum playing this rendition of Tea for Two. My playlists include music by Lee Liberace, Jon England, Richard Clayderman, Roger Williams, Hoagy Carmichael, Michel Legrand, Art Tatum, Dino Kartsonakis, Errol Garner, Charlie Schaffer, Russ Conway, Ferrante & Teicher, Carl Doy, Beegie Adair, Caravelli, Floyd Cramer, Geoff Love, Horst Jankowski, Ronnie Aldrich, Stanley Black, David Foster, Claude Bolling, Edison Valencia, Marrina Waks, and one Liberace imitator who tags his stuff [Roger Williams] and [Branson] and has told me not to mention his name. There are also many pieces by little known [nobodies] who are fantastic piano soloists, admired mainly by their YouTube fans. I am looking for videos of Bill Pursell, Felix Slatkin, George Shearing, John Arpin, Norm Geller, Norman Percival, and Gordon Franks. I would be amiss if I didnt have the greats Del Wood and JoAnn Castle on my page, however, they are only favorited, and not in the playlists. As much as I admire their talent, its a far cry from the romantic style Im after.

Hope you enjoy.

Thanks big time for sharing this. Tatum is beyond any limit, be it timing, tempo, rhythm, suppleness, improvisation etcc

If I'm not mistaken this is the '1932 version' of Tea for Two?? I say this because I remember a notated transcription bearing that year. It's noticeably different from the famous 1933 version. Did Tatum really do a 1932 one?Honestly though, I'd love to see the 1933 version being played on a Disklavier. Zenph 're-performed' the actual rendition here in Youtube. Would be cool to see how Tatum graced those notes with ease.

Shame it can't replicate Tatum's amazingly delicate touch on the keys though.

This video proves that Art Tatum was secretly an octopus.

@CBasie2856 True, but seriously, I think a completely accurate transcription might break the poor piano.

@12rosebud12 actually he did compose a little. He has a few songs that he wrote, but they were never made mainstream pop tunes in his days. I don't remember what the songs were, but I do know that he wrote a few.

@CBasie2856 Purism is for neurotics.WHO cares about "inaccurate" transcribing? Tatum ain't Chopin, although gifted with the same technical abilities, he didn't compose, he improvised, and if asked to "replay" this or that passage,he would have played it differently from 10 sec. ago. His recordings' sheet transcriptions will always be "moments musicaux", your sole concern must be: DO I SWING or not? Not ONE classical pianist I heard play this from sheet music is able to swing. Just enjoy.

You need to practice a little more piano. tempo is a little off at some parts. Not even a mechanical piano can keep up with tatum.

@Huckabeezer That is correct.

@CBasie2856 I hope it is now obvious to you that the version of this song you have on your webpage is not the same one which was duplicated here?

@loocee95 Ray Charles' comment says a lot.

This is obviously MIDI...every note is hit with the same pressure. It sounds shallow, expresionless, and fake. Fortunately, player technology learned to give "expression" to rolls produced in the 20s and later, which took some of the flatness out of them. Thus I would take the old player/paper roll technology over this any day.
