Praising Satan does not always mean that the person or band in question actually believes that Satan is real. Some times it's just a poetic or rhetorical strategy. It's an identification with the rebel, with the inversion of authority. The tradition goes back a long way - the Romantics, the Decadent and Symbolist artists and poets, the Surrealists, etc.
