The meaning of the word viking is not that clear: pirate, explorer, man from the fjords (vik: inlet, bay), oarsman (from vika: shift, to row in shifts).In any case, the Viking Age refers more to a period in history than to the cultures and mythology that predates it. Ironically, that's when the Christianization took place. The Norsemen had no unifying name for their polytheistic faiths.So I just call it Epic Metal.
