My god, what is this child doing singing Una furtive lacrima? First off it's a tenor aria. Second, opera is not suitable for little children to be singing. Opera music was written to be sung by adults, not children, for very good reasons. This type of music puts a terrible strain on the immature vocal apparatus of children and can permanently damage their voices. You can easily hear the strain in Amira's voice when she tries to sing arias. She doesn't know how to breathe correctly for singing and there is a lot of unevenness in her voice. Please don't tell me all about her being a prodigy. Many voice teachers won't even take students who are less than at least 16 years old, as their voices are not ready for training before than. Also, many vocal professionals believe that because children's voices are not ready for training until the mid or late teens, that there is no such thing as a vocal child prodigy. Amira is obviously very talented, but her voice is not yet ready for singing opera. It would be much better for her to sing in a chorus or play an instrument until her voice is ready for training. If she really must sing now, there is a lot of music out there that is appropriate for her age and her vocal skill level. Children's voices can be badly damaged by singing music that they are not ready for, and that most certainly includes opera. I'm sure people would be horrified by a little boy being allowed to play football on a pro football team. A child's body is not yet mature enough to stand up to the stresses of professional football. It's the same thing with little children who sing opera. A vocal professional who works with an opera company said it best when he said that these little kids who are singing opera arias are writing checks that their bodies can't cash.
