Amazulu were a British ska and new wave band from the 1980s.
The band formed primarily as an all female band, except one member, Nardo Bailey on drums. The name "Amazulu" is taken from the Zulu language word for the Zulu people. Former manager for X-Ray Spex and Adam and the Ants, Falcon Stuart, discovered the act and helped promote their first single, "Cairo" to modest success in the UK, including airplay from BBC Radio 1's John Peel.
The band started gaining appearances on TV Top of the Pops (1985) and The Young Ones (1984) which helped trigger their fame amongst a wider audience with hits such as "Moonlight Romance" and "Excitable". The band broke into the United States with "Montego Bay" (a cover of the 1970 song by Bobby Bloom) in 1986. That same year saw the release of their eponymous full length album, released on Island Records. They achieved success in the UK with "Too Good To Be Forgotten", which made it to #5 in the UK Singles Chart in 1986, their best showing there.

Hi Margo, Here is another Amazulu memory. In 1992 I decided to hitchhike (my one and only time) to Shrewsbury to have a busker weekend. I was picked up by a Hippy driving a Jaguar XJS. The only cassette he had was an Amazulu compilation. He kept on singing TOO GOOD TO BE FORGOTTEN. He actually sounded like the character NEIL. When I found out he was a dealer and had a ridiculous amount of Ganja in his car, I politely asked him to drop me at the nearest town. Ah those memories. Peace, Chris11 years назад

cheers Chris. It is a catchy tune, although I think the production of the single and video (both by Jerry Dammers of The Specials) was dire and it didn't chart. Island only gave us one chance to record our own song and then said we had to record covers selected by their chosen producer.11 years назад

Hi Margo, Thanks for correcting my assumption. Hard to tell if it was Salmon Pink or Fiesta Red. I am originally from Bath UK but now live in Switzerland since 1996. Working as a full time Guitar teacher. Funny enough, I was watching The Young Ones episode on YouTube with my Girlfriend a few weeks ago. She kept on singing " SO MUCH LOVE" afterwards. Hi Chris, its actually a 1963 salmon pink strat, still a beloved possession. I play in a covers band these days (to keep my hand in) called 'The Hip Replacements', which also includes Nardo the drummer from the 'zulus.
