Went in expecting a Crimson Glory cover, but got a solid song that's seemingly Savatage-inspired (Edge of Thorns) instead. Speaking of "Edge of Thorns," also listen to "Forsaken" by Dream Theater and "Bleed" by Angel Dust. Or compare and contrast Sabaton's "Cliffs of Gallipoli" to Savatage's "Gutter Ballet." It really drives home the point that Savatage are among the pioneers of the more piano-heavy "theatrical" styles and sub-genres of metal (power, prog, symphonic, and whatnot) we hear so much of today. Like, bands such Avantasia and Kamelot, while still noticeably different, can perhaps attribute some of their elements to Savatage. Yet, Savatage, along with Crimson Glory, is practically unknown of outside of a fairly small circle these days.
