this version although musically gorgeous is also absolutely puzzling to me... I gave it a good chance, listening to it over and over, but the way the words were changed here just seem to make it a wash. taking out from the realm of clear and crushing heartache to I don't know what. Not a good move to change the words in the way she did - didn't work for me

Michael Johnson's version from his debut album "There Is a Breeze," is pretty hard to beat.....1973.....a wonderful album and his version of Browne's song here is perfect.....this one is beautiful....I'm betting Michael influenced Alison to do this while they were singing their duet some years ago......

Jackson Browne's classic original and Bonnie Raitt's faithful cover both invoke world weariness and hopelessness, but I think Alison's version adds a new dimension to the lyric, a sweet innocent disbelief or disillusionment, as if it came out of left field, as compared to the older versions that saw a relationship coming apart a long way off and barely had the strength to now sing about it (valid interpretations of course). Her gifted golden voice and the typical virtuoso dobro playing of Jerry Douglas don't hurt either.

I don't follow awards but if this album hasn't one every one of them I would be shocked. Absolute Classic.

Often we hear anti-whites use the term "minorities" used to refer to Africans, Indians, ect But In 1900 my people, white people, comprised 33% of world population, today we are at 9% and dropping like a rock. Not only are we a minority in the world but because of immigration & assimilation in EVERY white country and ONLY white countries our children are poised to be minorities IN OUR OWN COUNTRIES within a few decades. This is genocide. This is evil and this must stop! Northwest Front.org

Song reminds me of me when I left my first wife and daughter.

Alison has a truly wonderful voice, but I think it gets in the way of the emotion here, in what is for me Jackson Browne's finest song. The original version or Bonnie's definitive cover capture the actual experience and the world weariness of the incredible lyrics. I don't know how Jackson could write this at such a young age, its breathtaking beauty has such a 'lived in' feel and mature regret at lives torn apart. I love Alison, but she doesn't quite convince me on this one.

These song renditions from AKUS should have like 30 million more views, an order of thousand more than there are presently.

I had a hard time figuring out why this sounded so familiar until it hit me, I owned Sweet Forgiveness in the early '80's. I never recognized that it was from that album that I'd heard it, and I'm amazed that anyone could even come near Bonnie in quality as far as singing this song. Leave it to AKUS to show up nearly anyone at anything!

Saw Alison (live) is Savannah GA in the 1990's and it's hard to believe she could be even better now, but I can see and hear and she is. This is great music, what a gift, to her and to us.

I love Michael Johnson, but you are wrong. Jackson Browne wrote this and Michael Johnson recorded it on his There is a Breeze" album.

It's a beautiful song, and kudos go to Jackson Browne for writing such a wonderful song that appeals to a variety of listeners. It's rare to find a cover of a song in a different genre that still retains many o the essential features of the original but Allison did a great job.

No Jackson wrote the song CarolinaBeachComber! And as far as this version being better than the original, no way!! I love Alison but you can feel Jackson's pain in this song!! This is a paper airplane version of it!
