I occasionally bemoan the fact MuchMusic doesn't really show music videos anymore. And then I'm reminded of the stuff they were showing towards the end of their video era, like this, and I'm no longer nostalgic. This is a textbook example of why poking fun at a video that was intended to poke fun at music videos is a fools errand. Especially if you're wearing clown make-up.

Comedians without a career making fun of a comedian who had a successful one.  Alexei was amazing on the Comic Strip and the Young Ones!  Video made me laugh when it first came out and still does.  The Video on Trial cast however where just not funny.

By necessity, if you're going to make jokes at the expense of what is already a spoof video by a comedian, you'd better make sure that you're actually funnier than the video, otherwise you're just going to look hopelessly tryhard regardless of where you come from and your localised form of humour.The people involved failed to do this. They should hope that someone doesn't return the favour in another 30 years, because it would be amazingly easy to do.

Alexei Sayle is a comedic genius, as shown by this song. What a waste of YouTube space. The woman in clown makeup is the unfunniest person I've ever seen.
