Great sounds from a marvelous singer and fascinating woman. There are excellent articles on her online at redhotjazz, wikipedia and allmusic. Her career lasts over 60s years with stops and starts and covers the US and Europe. This is early middle period where she is a successful swing era jazz singer. The photo is from the early 20s when she was a classic blues singer. I'm not sure if that explains the disconect.
