The 1942 film "Casablanca" was the first obvious inspiration for the lyrics (On a morning from a Bogart movie, in a country where they turn back time) but Al Stewart also uses Year of the Cat as a metaphor for, hmmm . . . shall we say, a part of a woman's anatomy. It must have been a very sexual year. This is an unforgettable song about what happens when an exotic woman lures you in, you fall in love, knowing you should just walk away . . . but you can't.

Goodness. This is one of the most romantic songs EVER written. The Bogey film adds so much to it, too.

Sorry my friend your video is so cool, but Peter Lorre contemplating a crime should be The Maltese Falcon instead Casablanca even if the Wikipedia talk about Casablanca too, Take a look to the film , the actors and scenes. Regards
