IMHO this is one of Jolson's best songs. I was just curious if anyone knew what kind of musical instrument was used at 0:13 (what a classy star he was). Cornet?

CatsPjamas1 : Thanks for the reply. I found Al's version of Moonlight and Magnolias on a cassette tape of an episode of his radio show from 1935.

The Railway Dogs

Probably the best version. This type of song seems to be lost in the past: if the lyrics don't mention "luv" then it dosn't exist!

My dad oldl the story of a supply run he made into Taegu, Korea in 1950. He was at the airport when Al Jolson appeared. He told thew troops that when he returned to the States he would see that the Hopes, Crosbys and Jack Benny came to Korea. They called it a police action, he knew a war when he saw one. He raised the newly designed United Nations flag, sang "California here I come" and returned to the States, where he died soon thereafter. Others went to Korea, but Jolie was there first!
