I'm going to a family member's funeral tomorrow. But last Friday when I heard of the this person's death and I felt so hard and unfeeling, I had a crazy sense that I should look for a Christian song of some sort. This was the first song I found and I truly believe God wanted me to hear it. God Bless you Jars of Clay! Blue nail polish and all! Doesn't matter to me because we're all brothers and sisters in Christ!!! Great music.-thank you!!!!!

They're making the point that we're really all dead men. Dead in sin. (Rom. 6:23 "wages of sin is death," and we're all sinners). There's nothing we can do on our own, only by God's grace. So "carry me," means asking God to help them. Get rid of the old, dead to sin self and breathe in NEW life. Life with Christ. Love this song b/c it's such a good picture of what life with Christ is like. It is freeing. It is like new breath. We get new hearts, new minds, renewed spirits. That's my take.:)
