@blahhayden Firstly, she.  She.  She...and "Laura", not "Tom".  Who cares if everyone accepts her as male, she doesn't accept herself as that.  I'm sure you feel like a man, and that's how you identify.  I bet you can't imagine yourself as a woman.  Now imagine you looked in the mirror and saw a female's body and female's face looking back but your inner thoughts were still 100% male.  Obviously you'd think you were placed in the wrong body.  Also, how can you listen to these lyrics and not understand the pain of living with this?  If you had seen Against Me! years ago live and then again recently, you'd see the drastic change on Laura's face.  Seeing songs like the Ocean performed previously while she tried to play male was very pained looking.  Now she looks liberated and happy.  The suicide rate is high in transgender people, all because the world expects you to live in the role of what a "man" or "woman" is supposed to be.  She obviously doesn't see herself as a man so why not let her be happy and liberated from bottling it in until she kills herself, all because, "everyone else is fine with her being a man, so she should keep being a man."

laura is not a different person. and even if, why would one not want to grow up to be her? someone who became who they are through adversity. that is the whole point of the music. be who you are. to take someones self actualization and spin it to adhere to your own experience seems selfish. she is not here exclusively for your coming of age.

Fuck you. Maybe it was Tom who we looked up to and aspired to be, who we latched on to and idolized, who we fucking wanted to be when we grew up. And maybe Laura came and shattered that dream, exposed it as false and hollow, leaving us feeling empty and betrayed. So I think it's just a little fair that some people would feel a little bitter at referring to Tom as Laura because it just reminds them that they aspired to something that was really just a work of fucking fiction.

ahhh against me such an amaizing band i started listing to this band a long time ago and ALL of against me or tom gables solo songs had deep meaning to me personaly as far as his sex change i dont care but his songs b4 it i felt directly translated to me or what i was currently going through i dont mind that now he conciders himself a woman but his songs have lost some meaning to me as me trying to be a better man in other words i used to feel his songs were for me now i feel there for others :(

@williecasarez What declares selling out to your standards? Changing the playing style of music, the feel of the song? That's called growth and progression as a band.
