Don't be discouraged. If authoritarian, catholic Catalonia can become atheist anarchists in just a few months...why not America? I think you're forgetting the radical tradition of America. From what W.E.B. Dubois called the "South Carolina Commune" which was far more radical than its Paris namesake, to the romanticized rugged frontiersman.
