First few times I listened to this song, I thought they were saying "Fuck your sister, and fuck you too!". Until I looked up the lyrics.

I don't understand how anyone could possibly think punk was influenced by emo, that's bull. I'm pretty sure the clash, dead Kennedy's and the ramones all happened before emo, in fact punk rock created hardcore, so really you have no justifications, emo has nothing to do with punk, they took what was good about the scene and through it back in their face.

One person disliked this song. I could make some comment about people who disliked, or I could just point out that only one person disliked this song. Just saying.

Worst comment I've seen on a Punk video/song. Not only that, but you people thumbs up to this comment? Sad. This is real Emo, people - please learn the truth: watch?v=Gh0c6AbER-A

@AstroZombieJosh Real emotive hardcore bands can be the best things that ever happened to the punk scene, in my opinion. Ask any of your favorite punk musicians, I guarantee they'll tell you they were influenced by Jawbreaker.

@AstroZombieJosh Sorry but emo seriously isn't like that buddy. Most emo bands have people who are just as punk as you or me. Emo =/= my chemical romance or hawthorne heights. Check out snowing, midwest pen pals, or algernon cadwallader. They aren't make shitloads of money.

@shinkengatsxa But it's not a true competitor. A truer competitor actually has a chance of putting them out of business. Also, punk has assimilated in its own way.

@shinkengatsxa That's a choice people make. They aren't forced into it. It can be seen as brainwashing, but in reality isn't. I know plenty of punks who watch a fuckton of TV, and they aren't brainwashed into being one of the "mainstream cookie-cutter" masses. As a kid, I watched way too much TV, yet I turned out the way I am now: an anarcho-syndicalist/nihilist/existentialist who enjoys listening to all sorts of music (punk/hardcore/emo/jazz/classical/grindcore/etc).

@shinkengatsxa Of course. And I already stated that's been done on its own. Counter-cultures are just smaller versions of mainstream culture, for the most part. And, no, the mainstream really doesn't want anything to do with the punk world, or its music. If it won't sell a lot, then why would they want it?

SpiffyRamone

@shinkengatsxa False. Brainwashing is the forced changing of a person's thought process. There's a difference. The mainstream media doesn't force you, it merely provides you with one outlet. Conformity is encouraged, but not forced. And no, when one person questions something that most people believe in, that person is usually looked down upon. Did you really study sociology?

SpiffyRamone

@shinkengatsxa Not entirely. See, more counter-cultures means more potential stuff to sell. They can sell to the people in the counter-cultures, people who wanna look it, but not be it, the mainstream, etc. It's why businesses such as Hot Topic exist; as a way to sell to counter-cultures. Plus, to say punk isn't, for the most part, cookie-cutter is absolutely absurd. Have you ever heard The Casualties? Cheap Sex? The Virus? Ceremony? Touche Amore? Most modern punk/hardcore bands?
