mainstream, that's funny. as pop as this stuff is, it was still miles ahead of almost anything around. after being in zappas band, anything he did seemed tame. and zappas music could have been some of the best music he ever played.

Actually, Adrian produced this album himself, so I don't think anyone was trying to "mainstream" him. He may have been under a certain amount of pressure from Island Records to do something radio friendly or whatever, but Ade seems to have always had a "conventional" side to his music.

Everything about Adrian Belew is cool, even if he tries to seem unhip. When this album was released he toured with its killer band including, Larry London on drums, and I saw them at the Bottom Line (NYC). I can still feel the chill...................jp
