Access denied

All of the smarter kids they stay inside

But out in the pouring rain

You're kicking me with that look of sheer disdain

The fat controller man

He doesn't understand he's my biggest fan

So I'll stay here on the floor

It's better to be ignored than to be adored

Church spires ticking

Hose pipes hissing

Don't want to smother you

Just want you to be the mother of my children (now)

And you do

Good morning lucky man

I hope you enjoyed your sojourn in Japan

It's such a perfect scene

Back here in Golders Green - cut...end of dream

Una de mis bandas favoritas del progresivo: Porcupine Tree, aunque ahora en no están activos, espero pronto el regreso de esta gran banda, aunque Steven hace un magnífico trabajo , se extraña a PT.

Steven Wilson was into writing "novelty songs" in the Stupid Dream/Lightbulb Sun era. Another one in the similar vein is "How is your life today" on Lightbulb Sun.

people who don't like this song obviously don't see the sheer beauty of the contrasting elements of the instrumentation. I think also it would help having your ears well versed in 60-70s Pop Rock in order to grasp this song.. I personally have actually found people who are not fans of Porcupine Tree actually like this song..

Have you ever heard of Porcupine Tree? Bet you only heard In Absentia and/or Deadwing.

I'm gonna set this song as the security alarm in my house. So everytime a thief tries to break into he'll hear "AAAACCES DENIED"

PT needs to get cute more often.

Something about the robot-y dissonant digital atmosphere is oddly similar, especially since the only Radiohead song I can identify at most times is Paranoid Android.

...The hell did I just listen to?

Porcupine tree doesn't sound like radiohead at all! And radiohead doesn't sound like porcupine tree at all either!

It doesn't matter who was first and I seriously doubt Radiohead have even heard of Porcupine Tree let alone have influenced by their music. I can recall Thom Yorke saying that Prog Rock was pathetic, Krautrock was more Punk Rock than Progressive, and Pink Floyd was too slow to be Progressive.

A line in 'Pure narcotic': "You keep me listening to 'The Bends'". Steven Wilson refers to the album "The Bends" by Radiohead. Different song, yet same era. Conclusion: An influence by Radiohead is actually plausible here. Just saying.

Exactly. Let me quote "Pure Narcotic": "You keep me waiting. You keep me lone in a room full of friends. You keep me hating. You keep me listening to 'The Bends'." I don't think that's a coincidence... also, if you compare the slide guitars from the Stupid Dream / Lightbulb Sun era to the mentioned album, in my opinion you can hear the inspiration Steven has drawn from that album.

When I first heard this I thought I had put in the wrong CD. Then I heard SW's voice. Then the world was full of awesome.

Reminds me slightly of Offspring - when you're in prison, just the vocals of this song. This song is much better though.

@gogolplex74 they're probably cross influenced like all the bands in the modern progressive rock/ prog metal genres.
